Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
There is a whole world of assistive technology that can improve or maintain the quality of life of people with ALS. This world can be difficult to navigate for those that do not know what words to use or which people to ask.
Thankfully, The ALS Association, Greater New York Chapter has a wide array of assistance to make sure that people with ALS always have the help they need. In addition to our ALS Center multi-disciplinary teams, which are great sources of information, our chapter has an Assistive Technology Specialist, whose sole focus is addressing assistive technology needs of our PALS.
